Man Utd make last-ditch bid to hijack Real Madrid transfer after having huge offer ‘accepted’
Manchester United have reportedly made a last-minute attempt to hijack a Real Madrid transfer. As United aim to bolster their squad for the upcoming season, it has been confirmed that Erik ten Hag will remain their manager after a one-year extension clause in his contract was triggered, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2026.
United are on the verge of completing the signings of defender Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, both of whom are representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024. In addition to these acquisitions, United are trying to secure another defender that Real Madrid has been targeting.
According to journalist Nabil Djellit, United have had an official offer of £42 million plus bonuses for Leny Yoro accepted by French side Lille. Real Madrid have also been in negotiations with Lille for the French centre-back, making him one of their top targets this summer.
The 18-year-old Yoro has expressed a preference for Real Madrid, but United are actively trying to persuade him to join the Premier League. Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool have also shown interest in the young defender, but the race now seems to be between Real Madrid and United.
United’s need to reinforce their defense is pressing after conceding 58 goals in 38 league games last season. Raphael Varane has left the club following the expiration of his contract, and injuries to Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez have highlighted the need for more reliable defensive options.
Additionally, the Premier League giants have been linked with a potential surprise signing at left-back, indicating a comprehensive approach to strengthening their backline.
