Devastating news has been confirmed for Liverpool legend Divock Origi.
A former Liverpool player, who remains a cult hero at Anfield, has faced a significant setback at his current club. Two years after leaving the Reds for AC Milan, Divock Origi finds himself on the fringes at the San Siro.
A loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season failed to yield positive results for all parties involved.
According to Calciomercato, the 29-year-old has been excluded from Milan’s senior squad for their pre-season training camp and is training with the club’s youth team, alongside Fode Ballo-Toure.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now a senior advisor to Milan’s owners RedBird, clarified their status by stating: “They have been called up, but for the Milan Futuro team. They are not part of the first team.”
Ibrahimovic’s comments indicate that Origi is not part of new Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca’s plans, making it likely that the 29-year-old will seek a permanent move away from the San Siro.
This marks a dramatic decline for the Belgian since his departure from Liverpool, where he scored iconic goals against Everton, Newcastle, Barcelona, and Tottenham, particularly during the 2018/19 Champions League campaign.
Since leaving Liverpool, Origi has scored just three goals in 58 appearances, highlighting his struggles. With two years left on his Milan contract, Origi needs a new club to rescue him from his current predicament.
A player who provided so many memorable moments for Liverpool deserves better than to be sidelined by his current club.
Hopefully, he can either rejuvenate his career at Milan or find a new team that values his talents more highly.
