FC Barcelona has announced plans to acquire a new player who was on loan from another team last season.

The statement reads: “FC Barcelona and Los Angeles FC have agreed to the transfer of player Mamadou Mbacke Fall. He will sign a contract for two seasons, ending on June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extending it for an additional two years.”

The statement also notes: “The Senegalese center defender played for Barça Atlètic on loan from the American team last year.”

The letter adds: “The actual act of signing the contract will not happen yet.”

As previously mentioned, Mbacke played for the Catalan reserve team, Barça Atlético, last season and was praised as a “center back who stands out for being great in the air.”

At the end of last season, following a successful tenure under Rafa Marquez, who is no longer the head coach of Barcelona Atletic, Mundo Deportivo reported ongoing discussions to purchase Mbacke outright for $4 million plus bonuses.

There were speculations about Mbacke potentially being promoted to the first team or at least training with it alongside his compatriot Mika Faye. Hence, many were surprised when Mbacke announced his departure on Instagram at the end of last month.

In his farewell post, Mbacke wrote in Catalan and French, “Hi Culers, it’s been nothing but a nice trip sharing moments as a teammate and as a fan.”

He continued, “When I came here, my goal was to get Barcelona back to where it belongs, but that wasn’t God’s will.”

“I’m thrilled to be a part of you; I loved every minute of it.” “Thank you all, it was a short trip,” Mbacke concluded.

However, on July 8, SPORT reported that Barcelona and Mbacke had reached a “total agreement” to purchase the player. The deal has now been finalized two weeks later.

Although Mbacke is currently a regular member of the Barcelona Athletic team, there remains a possibility that the club could look to sell him if the right offer is received during the summer transfer window.
