Moises Caicedo explains why he chose Chelsea over Liverpool

Moises Caicedo has explained why he resisted the temptation to join “a big team” such as Liverpool and instead completed a move to Chelsea. Caicedo became the center of a transfer tug-of-war between the two Premier League sides last summer, having chosen to leave Brighton.
Chelsea were long-time admirers of the Ecuador international but initially refused to meet the asking price of the Seagulls, allowing Liverpool to get ahead by having a £111 million offer accepted.
However, the Londoners then agreed to a £115 million deal with Brighton, with Caicedo ultimately deciding to move to Stamford Bridge in what could become a British club record fee.
The defensive midfielder has now revealed why he found it challenging to ignore interest from Liverpool.
“It was difficult,” he said. “So difficult. As you know, Liverpool is a big team. As is Chelsea. But Chelsea was with me for a couple of months. I could not miss out on them because they were with me in tough moments when Brighton didn’t want to let me go.
“It was a difficult decision but, for sure, 100% I knew I wanted to go to Chelsea.”
Having also been beaten by Chelsea to the signature of Romeo Lavia, Liverpool solved their defensive midfield issue by bringing in Japan international captain Wataru Endo from Stuttgart for £16.25 million.
Caicedo had a disappointing first half of last season but improved after Christmas to help Chelsea finish in sixth place in the Premier League. He also played a starring role as the Londoners were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool in the League Cup final at Wembley in February.
