Liverpool have confirmed that left-back Luke Chambers will return to Wigan on loan for the 2024/25 season, making it official that the 19-year-old will be back in League One.
Chambers, who was on loan at Wigan for the latter part of last season, participated in the initial phase of Liverpool’s pre-season before the arrangement was finalized during the team’s tour of the United States. Upon their return, he traveled to Wigan to complete the move.
The renewed loan was announced on Tuesday, and Chambers is set to spend the entire season with Wigan, managed by Shaun Maloney.
This marks Liverpool’s second loan arrangement with Wigan this summer, following right-back Calvin Ramsay’s season-long loan. Both Ramsay and Chambers are anticipated to be regular starters for Wigan at their home ground, the Brick Community Stadium.
Despite being highly regarded, Chambers was behind Kostas Tsimikas and Owen Beck in the left-back hierarchy under manager Arne Slot, especially with Andy Robertson sidelined due to injury during the US tour.
Returning to Wigan will provide Chambers with valuable playing time and a setting that will support his development, with Maloney being a strong supporter of his abilities.
Wigan’s league season starts with three matches in eight days, beginning with a home game against Charlton on Saturday, followed by a League Cup match against Barnsley on August 13, and a league fixture against Reading on August 17. Chambers, having improved his fitness during Liverpool’s pre-season, is expected to play a significant role.
In addition to Chambers and Ramsay, Liverpool have also confirmed a loan deal for goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek, who will join IF Brommapojkarna in Sweden. More loan moves are anticipated before
