John Brooks, who was initially set to referee the Community Shield match between Manchester United and Manchester City, has been replaced by Jarred Gillett due to a minor injury Brooks sustained. The FA announced this change, with Gillett, who was originally designated as the fourth official, now stepping in to referee the match. Sam Barrott will take over Gillett’s role as the fourth official.

This traditional season opener will see Manchester United and Manchester City compete at Wembley. Gillett, who has officiated four matches for each Manchester club without issuing a red card, will now be in charge of the game. After the Community Shield, Manchester United will begin their Premier League season against Fulham on August 16, while Manchester City will face Chelsea two days later.
