Joao Cancelo has begun a season-long loan with Barcelona, where he will be reunited with his former teammate Ilkay Gundogan. Cancelo’s move to Barcelona comes after a fallout with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, which led to his absence from City’s treble-winning campaign last season.

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva, who has expressed a desire to leave Manchester City during the last three summer transfer windows, remains at the club. Silva’s wish to leave is not due to dissatisfaction with the club but rather difficulties adjusting to life in Manchester. Although City typically accommodates player departures when suitable offers are received, no acceptable bid for Silva has been made, unlike in the cases of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, and Cole Palmer.

Barcelona has shown interest in Silva, but financial constraints have prevented a move. Speculation about Silva’s future increased when he was seen on a Ryanair flight from Barcelona to Manchester, as reported by BBC Sport’s Bettywyn Glover on Instagram.

Silva’s contract, renewed in August last year, reportedly includes a £50 million release clause. While City has previously rejected offers at that price, this clause could make it easier for Silva to move to Barcelona or another club.

As discussions continue, Silva’s future with Manchester City remains uncertain, with the possibility of a transfer still under consideration.
