Antony linked with shock Man Utd exit as club comes out of nowhere after switching targets
Antony has been linked with a surprising exit from Manchester United as a club unexpectedly shifts focus to him after changing their transfer targets. Antony’s potential departure from Manchester United has surfaced amid ongoing transfer speculation this summer. Since his £86 million move to Old Trafford in 2022, Antony has had a less-than-stellar stint.
Last season, he struggled to secure a place in the first team, despite making 44 appearances across all competitions during his debut season with the Red Devils.
Reports suggest a transfer might be on the horizon, with Football Insider claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr has expressed interest in signing Antony before the summer transfer window closes.
Al Nassr’s interest in the Brazilian has grown after negotiations with Barcelona for Raphinha fell through. The Saudi Pro League club is eager to bring in a winger this summer, and Manchester United is reportedly open to letting the 24-year-old go.
However, any potential sale is expected to result in a financial loss for United. The report further mentions that Manchester United might allow Antony to leave on loan if his £100,000-a-week wages are fully covered.
Al Nassr is not the only club monitoring Antony’s situation this summer. Although Antony made an immediate impact by scoring on his debut against Arsenal, he has largely underperformed at Manchester United since his transfer from Ajax, managing only 11 goals in 82 appearances across all competitions.
Last month, Erik ten Hag discussed Antony, expressing his belief that the player still has the potential to succeed at the club. Ten Hag stated, “I don’t go over the budget. I’ve never even had a budget. At United, the budgets lie with the owners and management. He certainly showed that potential in the first month: he scored three times in his first three games. After that, it became more difficult. Last season was not good. But I am still convinced that he has the potential to play at this club.”
