Pep Guardiola’s top target to replace Julian Alvarez at Man City makes decision on his future

According to reports, Pep Guardiola’s ideal candidate to replace Julian Alvarez has already made a decision regarding his future.

Alvarez is on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid after the Spanish club agreed to an £82 million fee with Manchester City for the Argentine forward.

At 24 years old, Alvarez will become City’s record sale by a significant margin, resulting in a substantial profit compared to the £14 million they initially paid to acquire him from River Plate. There has been considerable discussion about how City will compensate for the loss of Alvarez, given his significant goal contributions despite not being a regular starter.

AS reports that Guardiola’s ultimate dream would be to bring in Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid.

The Brazilian’s playing time may be impacted by the arrivals of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick this season.

However, the report indicates that Rodrygo has no interest in departing the Santiago Bernabeu and is more than content with his current situation. He is under contract until 2028, and it’s stated that there has been no approach or even an inquiry.

Nevertheless, Rodrygo is believed to be resolute in his decision, and not even a direct phone call from Guardiola would change his mind.

The rumors linking Rodrygo to City have been circulating for some time, and the 23-year-old seemed to suggest a possible exit during an interview with DAZN.

However, he later issued a statement clarifying that his words had been taken out of context and reaffirmed his commitment to staying.

“A very frustrating situation occurred today, where one of my interviews was completely taken out of context,” he stated.

“To be clear, I am very happy at Real Madrid. I live my dream every day, and the thought of leaving the club of my life has never crossed my mind. Now we continue with the history we’re making – for the 15th time. Hala Madrid and nothing else.”

Rodrygo has scored 54 goals and provided 41 assists in 216 appearances for Los Blancos, securing three La Liga titles and two Champions League victories.
