Athletic Bilbao coach raises controversy over the possibility of Nico Williams moving to Barcelona with this surprising decision
Spanish journalist Gerard Romeu mentioned that Barcelona still believes they can finalize the transfer of Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams during the summer transfer window. Nico Williams has been rumored to leave Bilbao this summer following his impressive performance with the Spanish national team in the European Nations Cup.
Barcelona is seen as the frontrunner to sign Williams, with Joan Laporta expressing his readiness to pay the release clause in Williams’ contract, which is estimated at around 60 million euros.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper Sport, Bilbao coach Valverde has not called up Nico Williams for the upcoming friendly match against Stuttgart, signaling that the player may be close to leaving this summer.
The newspaper also reported that Laporta is confident he can finalize the Williams deal this summer, and that the player’s family is more convinced than ever that a move to Barcelona is necessary. Furthermore, the newspaper stated that former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde chose not to include Williams in the squad for the Stuttgart match because he prefers not to rely on players whose future remains uncertain, reinforcing the recent rumors of a significant change in Nico Williams’ stance on joining Barcelona.
