Liverpool could face another setback in the summer transfer window as reports suggest Barcelona have resumed talks for a key player.

Arne Slot has remained silent during his first transfer window as Liverpool manager, with the club being the only Premier League side yet to make a signing.

Liverpool were close to securing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, but the deal collapsed on Monday after the player opted to stay at his childhood club.

Now, the Merseyside club might lose a key player, as Barcelona have renewed their interest in one of their starters. Luis Diaz has been linked with a move to Barcelona for some time, with the Spanish club seeking a left-sided winger.

After a strong performance with Spain at the Euros, Nico Williams seemed to be Hansi Flick’s first choice.

However, with difficulties in securing the 22-year-old, Barcelona are reportedly refocusing on Diaz.

The report originates from Spanish source Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra (via CaughtOffside), who claims Barcelona might be willing to include a player swap in a deal for Diaz.

Last season, Diaz played in 51 matches for Liverpool, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists.

The 27-year-old impressed at the 2024 Copa America, helping Colombia reach the final, where they lost 1-0 to Argentina.

On the way to the final, Diaz scored two goals and was a standout in the controversial semi-final against Uruguay. Diaz also scored twice in Liverpool’s 4-1 preseason victory over Sevilla on Sunday. (Image: Getty)

Diaz has also been in good form during Liverpool’s preseason, scoring twice in the 4-1 win against Sevilla.

Despite this, CaughtOffside reports that Liverpool might be open to the move in order to reignite their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

With Liverpool reportedly willing to sell Diaz for £50m, they may need to spend more to secure Gordon from Eddie Howe’s side ahead of a crucial season for Newcastle.
