Arsenal may rekindle their interest in acquiring Athletic Bilbao’s emerging talent, Nico Williams, as reported by the Express. The young Spaniard has drawn the attention of several elite European clubs following a remarkable season in which he was pivotal in Athletic Bilbao’s Copa del Rey triumph and their qualification for the Europa League.

Williams further demonstrated his abilities on the international stage, playing a key role in Spain’s recent European Championship win. Over the course of the tournament, he scored twice and provided an assist in six matches, including a decisive goal in the final against England.

Earlier this summer, Arsenal showed interest in signing Williams, but Barcelona appeared to be the leading contender for his signature. However, the latest report from the Express indicates that Barcelona has now abandoned their pursuit of the winger, potentially allowing Arsenal to revive their efforts to sign the 22-year-old before the transfer window closes. Williams continues to be a primary target for Mikel Arteta, who aims to bolster Arsenal’s attacking lineup.

The report also highlights that Williams has a £47 million release clause in his contract, making his possible transfer a “bargain” for Arsenal, though his salary demands are reportedly high. The Gunners have been exploring options for a new winger to support Bukayo Saka, but have yet to finalize a decision on any particular player.

Williams is a versatile forward, capable of playing on both wings. He is known for his pace, technical ability, and skill in dribbling past opponents. He can create scoring chances for teammates, finish opportunities himself, and is recognized for his work rate when not in possession.

Given these attributes, Williams would be a strong addition to Arsenal’s team. However, it remains uncertain whether the North London club will take concrete steps to secure his transfer before the window closes.

Meanwhile, Arsenal is set to begin their Premier League season on Saturday afternoon with a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium.
