Gary Neville has theory why Martin Zubimendi snubbed Liverpool that nobody else has suggested

Gary Neville has shared his theory on why Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Liverpool this summer, despite the Merseyside club making him their top transfer target. The 25-year-old midfielder had been linked with a £51 million move from Real Sociedad, and reports suggested that he had verbally agreed to join Liverpool. However, the transfer fell through, and Zubimendi is now reportedly in discussions about extending his contract with Sociedad.

Neville speculated that Zubimendi likely initially agreed to the move but later changed his mind. He hinted that Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona could have influenced the decision, suggesting that either club might have signaled interest in Zubimendi, making him hesitant to commit to Liverpool.

The situation has left Liverpool without a senior signing this summer, and despite missing out on Zubimendi, reports indicate that the club does not plan to pursue another No. 6 in the current transfer window. However, they are closing in on signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, with a reported €30 million offer on the table.

As the new Premier League season approaches, Liverpool fans will be hoping for more additions to the squad, particularly in light of the Zubimendi deal falling through.
