BREAKING NEWS: Arsenal has canceled a £20m deal with a Spanish club after Newcastle decided to sell Arteta’s top midfield target for £69M, amid ongoing financial difficulties.

Arsenal may be ready to interfere with Chelsea’s ongoing talks with Napoli regarding the transfer of Victor Osimhen, following news that Paris Saint-Germain has exited the race. This summer, Arsenal has already completed two signings: goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford for £27 million and Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for £42 million.
However, Arsenal is still on the lookout for a striker, especially with Eddie Nketiah possibly heading to Marseille, despite the club rejecting a recent offer from the French side. Reports indicate that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is eager to bring in a new number nine and might try to outmaneuver Chelsea in their pursuit of Osimhen.
While the Gunners have been monitoring the Napoli striker for a while, they understand that signing him would come with a hefty price tag. Nevertheless, Arsenal believes that acquiring a top-level striker is essential to closing the gap with Manchester City in the Premier League next season.
Alongside their search for a striker, Arsenal is also looking to strengthen their central midfield. The club has been linked with several players, including Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.
There is speculation that Arsenal might explore a deal involving their goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, valued at approximately £30 million, as part of an offer for Guimaraes.
Although Guimaraes has a release clause reportedly set at £100 million, rumors suggest Newcastle might consider a sale for a fee above £80 million.
Meanwhile, Arsenal has also been connected with Mikel Merino, a midfielder from Real Sociedad. Journalist Charles Watts suggests that after securing Calafiori, Arsenal could ramp up their efforts to sign Merino, who has drawn interest from other Spanish clubs.
Merino’s contract situation at Real Sociedad might make him available at a reasonable price, and Arsenal sees him as a versatile player capable of enhancing their midfield and left-sided options.
Although other midfield targets like Fabian Ruiz have been mentioned, Merino appears to be Arsenal’s main focus as they prepare for the upcoming season.
