Barcelona
FC Barcelona’s new manager, Hansi Flick, has harshly criticized three Barcelona players and is demanding their swift removal from the team.
Barcelona’s first football team faced a major blow by losing the Joan Gamper Cup final to French club AS Monaco 3-0, marking the first time in 12 years that Barcelona has failed to secure this prestigious pre-season title.
The defeat has sparked concerns within the club, especially as they gear up for the new season under their new German coach, Hansi Flick.
Following the match, Flick spoke to the media, acknowledging the disappointment but emphasizing that it’s still pre-season. He reassured fans that the team is capable of far better performances than what was shown against Monaco and expressed confidence in making improvements ahead of their next match against Valencia. Flick also emphasized the importance of learning from the loss to ensure better results in the future.
However, reports from the Spanish newspaper *Sport* indicate that Flick’s post-match remarks masked deeper frustrations. The German coach is reportedly very unhappy with the club’s management, particularly over Barcelona’s failure to offload certain players, which would have generated funds to strengthen the squad for the new season.
According to *Sport*, Flick is dissatisfied with Barcelona’s inability to complete key transfers, which he believes are crucial for the team to compete at the highest level this season.
One of the main issues troubling Flick is the situation involving Spanish winger Ferran Torres. Flick is said to be unconvinced by Torres’ abilities and has made it clear that he wants the player to leave the club immediately.
Flick’s dissatisfaction with Torres is reportedly so strong that he has warned Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, against retaining the player, as he does not plan to rely on him this season.
In addition to Torres, Brazilian forward Vitor Roque is another player Flick wants to see leave. Despite being a young talent with potential, Roque has not impressed Flick, who reportedly believes the Brazilian lacks the necessary quality to play for a club of Barcelona’s caliber.
Flick’s desire to see Roque depart reflects his broader concerns about the squad’s overall quality and depth.
The third player Flick wants to see exit is French defender Clement Lenglet. According to *Sport*, Flick has lost confidence in Lenglet due to his inconsistent performances and believes the defender is not up to the standard required for Barcelona. Flick is pushing for the club to sell Lenglet this summer as part of his effort to revamp the squad and bring in players who he believes can genuinely contribute to the team’s success.
Flick’s frustration also extends to Barcelona’s transfer dealings. He is reportedly urging Laporta to finalize the signing of Spanish winger Nico Williams, a player Flick considers essential to the team’s prospects this season.
The German coach has warned that failing to secure Williams could result in a disastrous season for Barcelona, potentially mirroring the disappointments of the previous campaign.
The heavy loss to Monaco in the Joan Gamper Cup has raised alarms within the club, with Flick using the match as a cautionary sign of what could happen if Barcelona does not address its squad issues promptly. The defeat has highlighted the urgent need for immediate action in the transfer market and increased the pressure on the club’s management to support Flick’s vision for the team.
