Liverpool are gearing up to be active in the final days of the transfer market, as they look to complete at least one signing before the summer window closes. With only 10 days remaining, the Reds are currently the only Premier League side yet to make a signing this summer, creating a sense of urgency to bolster their squad.

One key target for Liverpool is Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, although his arrival at Anfield is expected next year. In the meantime, reports indicate that Liverpool is exploring the option of signing a highly-rated defender who recently participated in Euro 2024.

The defender in question is 22-year-old Gonçalo Inácio from Sporting Lisbon. Liverpool has been monitoring Inácio since last year, and according to CaughtOffside, they are now seriously considering making a formal bid to bring him to Anfield. This interest arises amidst speculation that Joe Gomez could leave the club, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa both reportedly keen on acquiring the English defender.

Despite these developments, Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly content with his current squad and does not feel a pressing need for new additions this summer. However, the club’s ongoing interest in Inácio suggests they are still evaluating ways to enhance their defensive depth.

Inácio has emerged as one of Europe’s brightest young talents, having progressed through Sporting Lisbon’s ranks after beginning his football career at Almada AC in Portugal. He has become a key player for Sporting and has garnered significant attention across Europe. He has played 174 matches for Sporting, scoring 16 goals and assisting nine, an impressive feat for a defender. Internationally, he has earned 11 caps for Portugal, scoring twice and contributing two assists during his time with the national team, including at Euro 2024.

Recent reports suggest that Liverpool could secure Inácio for a fee of around £38 million, a relatively affordable sum given his potential and accomplishments. With the transfer deadline looming and the possible departure of Gomez, Liverpool’s pursuit of Inácio could be a crucial move as they look to reinforce their defense ahead of the new season.
