According to a report, an unexpected contender has entered the race to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this summer.

Rashford began his 2024/25 campaign by playing the full 90 minutes during United’s 1-0 win against Fulham at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old was left out of England’s squad for Euro 2024 after a difficult previous season, but this exclusion allowed him to complete a full pre-season with Erik ten Hag’s side.

However, it is still unclear if that pre-season will serve United or another team. Goal reports that Barcelona has now joined the race to acquire Rashford from Manchester United this summer.

The Spanish club is on the verge of confirming midfielder Ilkay Gundogan’s return to Manchester City, just a year after his free transfer to Barcelona. This move could generate funds for new acquisitions, although reports suggest that the Gundogan transfer is also necessary to offset Barcelona’s €57 million expenditure on RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo.
