Manchester United have reportedly offered €20 million plus Jadon Sancho to Barcelona in exchange for Frenkie de Jong, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who stated that “negotiations are expected to continue” regarding Sancho’s future.
Sancho made a brief substitute appearance in the Community Shield loss to Manchester City but was left out of the squad for United’s Premier League opener against Fulham and their recent defeat to Brighton.
Reports suggest Sancho requested to leave after being excluded from the Fulham match.
While talks with Paris Saint-Germain fell through earlier in the window, Juventus is now reportedly interested in the England international.
United are seeking a permanent exit for Sancho with a £40 million asking price, which might be beyond Juventus’ financial reach. The club would only consider a loan move if Juventus agrees to cover Sancho’s full £250,000 weekly wages, plus a loan fee and an obligation to buy him permanently—an unlikely scenario.
Romano confirmed that “negotiations are expected to continue” between United and Juventus, though Juventus recently agreed to sign Francisco Conceicao, potentially complicating a move for Sancho.
A Spanish report claims United have offered Sancho to Barcelona as part of a deal for long-term target De Jong. Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, is reportedly “seriously evaluating” the proposal, which also includes a €20 million payment.
The idea of acquiring Sancho is appealing to both Deco and new Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, who believes in Sancho’s potential and versatility.
While Flick wants to keep De Jong, pressure from Barcelona president Joan Laporta to accept United’s offer could influence the decision, especially as Barcelona searches for a new winger and looks to ease financial concerns.
When asked about Sancho’s exclusion from the Brighton match, United manager Erik ten Hag stated that Sancho must work hard to regain his place in the squad, emphasizing the need for competition in every position given the long season ahead.
