The reason why Liverpool’s new kit features Nike badge that is in wrong direction

Liverpool’s third kit includes a unique twist on the Nike logo, but why has it changed and what is the reason for it?

On Tuesday, Liverpool unveiled their brand new third kit for the 2024/25 season, showcasing a white shirt with platinum detail and a mix of red and yellow on the trim.

However one thing stands out on the kit, as the iconic Nike logo has been doubled and flipped so that it is standing upright at the top left of the shirt.

But why has the logo changed and what does it mean?

Liverpool’s third kit is part of Nike’s ‘Together We Rise’ collection which features a double vertical Nike tick to symbolise the growth of women’s football.

The traditional ‘swoosh’ logo represents the wing of the Greek goddess Nike, symbolising victory.

Therefore, doubling Nike’s wings is meant to showcase the growing influence of women’s football.

Fellow Premier league sides Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also releasing third kits with the double swoosh logo as part of the ‘Together We Rise’ campaign.

In a statement alongside the campaign launch, Nike said: “‘Together We Rise’ incorporates each club’s distinct identity, story and community while celebrating the ascendency of the women’s game.

“Designed in close partnership with clubs throughout Europe and Latin America, the all-gender collection reflects Nike’s belief that women and girls are on the leading edge of change, redefining the parameters of sport and how it serves the next generation.”

Alongside the double swoosh logo, the Liverpool kit was designed to pay homage to the city’s musical roots.

The statement continued: “In a nod to the female punk artists who pioneered a new sound where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea, the Liverpool third kit fuses iconic club colours with a loud pattern that pays homage to the city’s fearless artists.”
