Liverpool player set to leave before deadline day as ‘agreement’ reached for surprise transfer

Liverpool are preparing to lose another player during this transfer window after reaching an agreement ahead of the deadline.

The Reds are having an exciting end to the summer transfer window, with Giorgi Mamardashvili arriving on Tuesday and Federico Chiesa reportedly set for his medical on Thursday.

It’s also been a busy window for departures, with key players like Fabio Carvalho, Thiago Alcantara, and Joel Matip all leaving the club this summer.

Now, another exit is imminent before Friday’s deadline, as Liverpool have finalized a deal for a player to leave this summer.

David Ornstein reports that Red Bull Salzburg has agreed with Liverpool to sign midfielder Stefan Bajcetic on a season-long loan.

Earlier reports suggested the deal was close, but last-minute interest from Barcelona threatened to disrupt it.

However, with the La Liga club unable to finalize the transfer, Salzburg secured the move, and Bajcetic is set to travel to Austria for his medical.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano later clarified that Barcelona’s deal fell through due to Financial Fair Play regulations in La Liga.

The 19-year-old will be reunited with former Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders, who became Salzburg’s manager this summer after leaving Merseyside with Jurgen Klopp.

Bajcetic has made 22 senior appearances for Liverpool, enjoying a breakout season in 2022/23.

However, since March 2023, a series of injuries have limited the Spanish youngster’s playing time over the last 18 months.

He will join former teammate Bobby Clark, who made a permanent switch from Liverpool to Salzburg earlier this summer.

Clark moved to the Austrian side in a deal worth up to £10 million, with a 17.5% sell-on clause and a match rights agreement included.
