The Spanish giants are aiming to finalize a loan deal for the Liverpool midfielder before the transfer deadline on August 30. Marc Bernal, who limped off during Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday, is expected to miss much of the season according to initial assessments.

While Hansi Flick seems eager to bring in a replacement to fill the void in Barcelona’s midfield, they are up against strong competition from RB Salzburg, where Pep Lijnders, Jurgen Klopp’s former assistant, is in charge. The Austrian club had already proposed a loan deal to Liverpool but may be left empty-handed with Barcelona now involved.

In his two years at Liverpool, the 19-year-old has made 22 appearances, including only six in the 2023-24 season due to a calf injury that kept him sidelined for most of the campaign. It remains unclear whether Bajcetic will move to Spain or Germany. Reports indicate that Barcelona is interested in a straight loan deal without a buy option, while Spanish sources suggest they prefer to include a buy option of approximately €30 million ($33 million/£25 million). Barcelona must also navigate La Liga’s financial fair play regulations before registering the Spaniard.
