Neville and Carragher slate Man Utd star for role in two Liverpool goals
Luis Diaz opened the scoring with a header at the far post from a Mohamed Salah cross in the 36th minute after a fast-paced start to Sunday’s match between two of English football’s biggest rivals.
Liverpool’s break came as a result of a poor pass from Casemiro, who played the ball directly to Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutchman quickly got the Reds moving forward by passing to Salah, who then assisted Diaz.
Casemiro’s error came shortly after he angered the Man Utd fans by losing the ball in dangerous areas twice in a short span.
Neville criticizes Casemiro for sloppy pass
Analyzing the goal, Sky Sports commentator Neville clearly identified the player responsible for Man Utd falling behind.
“Casemiro, for a player with so much experience, gives the ball away in dangerous areas too often,” said Neville.
“There’s no pressure on him, and yet he tries a first-time pass. Liverpool have made mistakes in similar areas, but Mo Salah’s class and the quality of the cross made the difference.”
Neville and Carragher on Casemiro’s second blunder
Only seven minutes later, Casemiro’s troubles worsened when Diaz intercepted him again, leading to another goal after being found in the box by Salah to make it 2-0.
“Two mistakes by Casemiro, two goals by Diaz,” said Carragher.
In response to Casemiro appealing to referee Anthony Taylor for a free-kick, Neville remarked: “If you’re going to win at Old Trafford, you need to go for it when you smell weakness.
“Casemiro is easily pushed off the ball, and it was never a foul. From that moment, Liverpool are all over Man Utd’s defense.”
Just before halftime, Neville added: “I’d go as far as to say Casemiro looks like he’s lost a bit of confidence.
“For someone who’s won multiple Champions Leagues, these moments can happen in a game.”
