Barcelona Targets Bundesliga Stars for 2025 Reinforcements

As FC Barcelona prepares for the 2024-2025 season, important choices regarding their current roster loom, particularly with several key players nearing the end of their contracts. Inigo Martinez, who has emerged as a defensive leader amid injuries to Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo, is one such player with his contract expiring in 2025. Similarly, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Eric Garcia have contracts running through 2026, as does Frenkie de Jong.

To fill potential squad gaps, Barcelona is focused on bringing in experienced talent while minimizing spending. According to *Mundo Deportivo*, the club has set its sights on two standout Bundesliga players.

In defense, Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen is a primary target. The German center-back, represented by Pini Zahavi, has a strong relationship with Barcelona President Joan Laporta. With Tah’s contract expiring this season and no intention to renew, Barcelona had hoped to sign him in the recent summer transfer window. However, the move didn’t happen due to Barcelona’s financial limitations and Leverkusen’s reluctance to strengthen other competitors, such as Bayern Munich. The Catalan club now aims to sign him on a free transfer next year but could face competition from top European clubs.

In midfield, Barcelona is eyeing Joshua Kimmich as their preferred option. New Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, who has previously coached Kimmich at Bayern Munich and with the German national team, values his flexibility in playing both as a pivot and as a right-back. Kimmich’s contract with Bayern also expires next year, and despite the club’s efforts to extend it, he seems disinterested in renewing. While Barcelona may face competition from Real Madrid for his signature, Flick’s presence could give the Blaugrana an advantage.

As Barcelona navigates these crucial contract decisions and potential transfers, they are positioning themselves to reinforce the squad strategically for the upcoming seasons.
