Liverpool got back to winning ways with a 3-1 triumph at the San Siro, where Arne Slot’s squad showcased dominance over AC Milan in their Champions League opener. After suffering their first Premier League defeat of the season, Slot might have been worried about how his team would respond. However, Liverpool quickly dispelled any concerns with a strong display.

The goals were scored by Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahim Konate, and Dominik Szoboszlai, ensuring a comfortable victory for the Reds. Cody Gakpo’s performance, in particular, was praised, with former Liverpool player Stephen Warnock admitting that the Dutch forward proved him wrong with his standout showing.

Interestingly, Jamie Carragher’s focus was on a different player. Carragher, who had previously criticized Dominik Szoboszlai for an incident in a recent match against Manchester United, had a much more positive tone this time. While serving as a pundit for CBS Sports Golazo, Carragher remarked on the transformation of Ryan Gravenberch under the new leadership.

Carragher noted that Gravenberch has become a “completely different player” under Arne Slot compared to his time under Jurgen Klopp. Carragher emphasized the positive influence new managers can have on players who may have struggled under previous regimes. He used Gravenberch as an example, stating that the Dutch midfielder now appears much more confident and purposeful in his play.

Gravenberch’s performance against AC Milan earned him the Man of the Match title. His statistics were particularly impressive, including seven interceptions, nine ball recoveries, one tackle, three duels won, and a passing accuracy of 90% from 57 touches.

This recognition of Gravenberch isn’t new, as Tim Sherwood also recently highlighted the midfielder’s resurgence this season. Under Arne Slot, Gravenberch has evolved from a player who lacked consistency in the Premier League last season to a regular starter for Liverpool.

Carragher’s remarks further underscore the midfielder’s extraordinary transformation, pointing out that Gravenberch now plays with the skill and consistency that have made him a pivotal figure in Liverpool’s lineup, marking a significant improvement from his previous struggles under Klopp.
