It’s Enough Now. We Don’t Need Such Dreadful Performances Anymore. You Need To Build Your Team In A Way That You Are Dependent On Such A Flop” – This Is According To Manchester United Former Manager Sir Alex Ferguson As He Cautions That Erik Ten Hag Needs To Drop This Manchester United Player With A 0% Contribution Rate After His Dreadful Performance Against Crystal Palace

After an encouraging stretch of performances, Manchester United once again dropped points with a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday night, leading Erik ten Hag to face difficult selection choices.
Before the international break, fans were demoralized by a 3-0 home loss to rivals Liverpool. United seemed to respond well with solid victories over Southampton in the league and Barnsley in the EFL Cup.
However, Saturday’s lackluster showing highlights that there’s still much work to be done if they want to secure a top-four spot this season. Despite controlling possession and having more shots on target, one player’s display left fans disappointed.
Ten Hag must now weigh his options regarding Bruno Fernandes, as the captain failed to make an impact at Selhurst Park.
Bruno Fernandes has struggled to regain his form this season, even after signing a new long-term contract earlier in the summer. His performance against Crystal Palace on Saturday night continued his recent underwhelming form, sparking debate over whether Erik ten Hag should make adjustments.
According to Sofascore, Fernandes lost possession 34 times in the 94 minutes he played at Selhurst Park, a figure that could have hurt the team. For comparison, Amad Diallo lost the ball 19 times, the second-highest among the starters. Fernandes had a chance to make amends with a late free-kick, but his delivery into the box was easily dealt with by the Palace defense. His passing accuracy was just 72%, the lowest of all starting players.
Bruno Fernandes vs. Crystal Palace:
– **Minutes played**: 90
– **Expected goals**: 0.40
– **Accurate passes**: 60/83 (72%)
– **Key passes**: 2
– **Crosses (accurate)**: 6 (0)
– **Shots off target**: 3
– **Big chances missed**: 1
– **Possession lost**: 34
Fernandes registered three shots off target, missed a big chance, and contributed two key passes, but his overall performance was disappointing. Surprisingly, he remained on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes, though it was evident by halftime that he was struggling. Ten Hag opted to replace Christian Eriksen instead with 15 minutes remaining.
Mount Merits a Chance
Mason Mount, who endured injury setbacks last season, might deserve an opportunity to make an impact in the starting eleven.
Ten Hag can no longer rely on injuries and limited squad availability as reasons for continuing to select players out of form. After a busy summer transfer window and with key players returning to full fitness, the manager now has sufficient options on the bench to make changes.
Mason Mount, who arrived from Chelsea last summer, has faced injury challenges and is yet to firmly establish himself as a regular starter. Nevertheless, it’s perplexing that he was left on the bench against Crystal Palace, particularly when the initial game plan wasn’t working.
Ten Hag has alternatives for the attacking midfield position. Mount is a strong candidate, or if Manuel Ugarte becomes the expected partner for Kobbie Mainoo in a deeper role, Christian Eriksen could move forward into his preferred position.
Dropping the captain would be a bold decision, but it’s one Ten Hag must contemplate. Sticking with Fernandes while he’s out of form isn’t helping the team or the player.
