Jude Bellingham launches x-rated rant at referee during Real Madrid vs Espanyol match that left everyone stunned
Jude Bellingham found himself at the center of a heated incident with referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero during Real Madrid’s La Liga match against Espanyol on Saturday night.
Bellingham was one of three Real Madrid players to receive a caution for protesting during the match, as Carlo Ancelotti’s side came back from a Thibaut Courtois own-goal to secure a 4-1 victory at the Bernabeu.
The England international was shown a yellow card just before he was substituted and appeared visibly upset on the bench after an expletive-laden rant during the final moments of his performance.
Bellingham was particularly angry with the referee for halting a Real Madrid counterattack to issue the booking. Caught on camera, Bellingham could be heard saying “you are a piece of s***” as the yellow card was brandished.
Despite the controversy, Real Madrid completed a strong comeback, with goals from Dani Carvajal, Rodrygo, substitute Vinicius Jr, and a late penalty from Kylian Mbappé sealing the win. Vinicius’ introduction proved crucial, as he set up Rodrygo’s goal with a brilliant outside-of-the-foot cross before scoring himself 20 minutes after coming on.
The incident involving Bellingham became a hot topic on social media, with many fans expressing their disbelief over the referee’s decision.
One fan commented, “Ref STOPS the play on a Real Madrid counter to go book Bellingham because Jude… got fouled. I wish I was joking.” Another added, “Give Jude a yellow when we are on a counter-attack? That’s the third time today.” A third fan remarked, “He’s booking Bellingham for getting fouled, man. This ref is a disgrace.”
Despite the booking and the controversy, Bellingham’s overall performance was widely praised. He completed 51 out of 60 passes, made 79 touches, and delivered three key passes, earning him the player of the match award from SofaScore.
Bellingham and Real Madrid will return to action on Tuesday night when they face Alaves.
