Arsenal star told he needs to improve or face being sold after performance vs Bolton
Arsenal fans have expressed frustration with Gabriel Jesus following their Carabao Cup third-round victory over Bolton, suggesting that he may need to be sold if his performances don’t improve.
The Gunners cruised to a 2-0 lead by halftime against their League One opponents, with 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri scoring his first professional goal. Nwaneri quickly added a second after the break, following an early opener by Declan Rice in the 16th minute.
Four minutes later, Bolton responded as John McAtee set up Aaron Collins to pull one back for the visitors, who are currently 19th in League One. Despite a strong start, Bolton couldn’t keep pace, and the game was effectively over by the 65th minute when Raheem Sterling scored his first goal for Arsenal. Kai Havertz added a fifth shortly afterward, converting a rebound from a Sterling shot to make it 5-1.
Despite the comfortable win, Arsenal fans voiced concerns about Gabriel Jesus’ performance.
One fan wrote: “Gabriel Jesus needs to play much better. This isn’t good enough.”
Another added: “Even with this big win, Gabriel Jesus still hasn’t scored. He doesn’t even look like he’s going to.”
A third remarked: “Gabriel Jesus desperately needs a goal for his confidence. He’s been terrible tonight.”
A fourth questioned: “When was the last time Gabriel Jesus scored for Arsenal?”
A fifth fan commented: “Arteta should start looking for strikers in January because we can’t keep going like this.”
Jesus last scored for Arsenal on January 30 in a 2-1 Premier League win against Nottingham Forest. That remains his only goal of 2024, and injuries, along with limited starting opportunities, have contributed to his struggles. His sole start this season came in a 0-0 draw against Atalanta in the Champions League, where he was substituted after 58 minutes.
