New Man Utd manager target emerges who no-one has mentioned yet with Erik ten Hag future in severe doubt

A fresh contender has appeared in the race to become Manchester United’s next manager if Erik ten Hag departs.

Ten Hag faced increased pressure following United’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

After signing a new contract with the club during the summer following an FA Cup victory, United have only managed seven points from their first six Premier League matches this season.

In addition to the 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool, the loss to Spurs by the same margin has reignited discussions about the Dutchman’s future.

Current odds indicate that United assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is just ahead of Gareth Southgate as the leading candidate to succeed Ten Hag if a decision is made.

However, a new name has reportedly joined the conversation—Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi.

The 48-year-old, younger brother of AC Milan and Italy icon Filippo, led Inter to the 2023 Champions League final, where they were defeated by Manchester City in Istanbul.

Last season, Inzaghi’s team claimed the Serie A title, and he was named Manager of the Month three times in the league.

As reported by the Daily Star, United officials are ‘impressed’ with Inzaghi’s work in Milan but are concerned about his playing style, wanting a more attacking approach if he were to take the helm at Old Trafford.

Inzaghi has never coached outside of Italy, with his only previous senior managerial position being a five-year tenure at Lazio from 2016 to 2021.

Another complication is that he signed a new contract with Inter this summer, making it uncertain whether he would leave.

Despite this, Inzaghi has earned significant praise for his tactical expertise and success in Italy, having also worked with several United players, including Andre Onana and Christian Eriksen.
