Liverpool fans believe they may have uncovered the meaning behind Diogo Jota’s new goal celebration, displayed during the match against Crystal Palace.
Arne Slot’s side played their final game before the international break on Saturday, traveling to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace. After a disallowed goal by Palace striker Eddie Nketiah, Liverpool took control, with Jota scoring in the ninth minute.
Immediately after scoring, Jota unveiled a fresh celebration, sparking speculation among Liverpool fans on social media about its meaning.
The 27-year-old forward is an avid fan of the popular football video game EA FC and has previously showcased celebrations inspired by the game. Following the release of EA FC’s latest edition last week, fans suspect Jota’s latest celebration is linked to the game.
One fan posted on X, stating: “Jota did the Rodman FIFA celebration,” while another suggested it was a different EA FC celebration: “Jota doing FC 25 ladder celebration. The guy loves FIFA.”
Jota frequently talks about his passion for EA FC and has even admitted to being addicted to the game after representing Portugal in an international EA FC tournament. Last April, after scoring a late winner against Tottenham Hotspur, Jota mimicked using a video game controller as part of a FIFA-inspired celebration.
However, some fans believe his recent celebration was a nod to comedian Bob Mortimer, referencing a move seen on the BBC series *Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing*. One fan commented: “Jota’s been watching Bob Mortimer’s Uno celebration from *Gone Fishing*!” Another agreed, adding: “Jota doing the Bob Mortimer celebration!”
