Carlo Ancelotti is facing a challenging situation this season due to numerous injuries, particularly in defense. The Italian coach made a bold decision during the international break.

At Real Madrid, games come thick and fast, and it’s essential to consistently achieve excellent results. Ancelotti has struggled to maintain this high standard, especially at the start of the season, as several key players remain sidelined. David Alaba, who has been injured since last season, is still unavailable. The Austrian defender is greatly missed, but he is expected to return soon.

In addition to Alaba, Real Madrid have also lost Ɖder MilitĆ£o, and Dani Carvajal, who suffered a severe injury in Sundayā€™s La Liga match against Villarreal, is not expected to play again this season. These injuries have forced Ancelotti to explore other options to fill the gaps in Real Madridā€™s defense. According to *Mundo Deportivo*, Ancelotti developed a new defensive strategy during the international break to adjust his backline once the season resumes.

Ancelottiā€™s radical new decision

With only Antonio RĆ¼diger available, currently on international duty with Germany, Ancelotti is struggling to rebuild his defense. The 59-year-old coach, who is not relying much on JesĆŗs Vallejo after testing him earlier this season against Deportivo AlavĆ©s, has come up with a surprising solution.

According to *Mundo Deportivo*, Ancelotti has decided to move AurƩlien TchouamƩni into central defense until the injured players return. The French international, who was named captain of the national team against Israel in the Nations League, has previously performed well in central defense. Ancelotti believes that TchouamƩni will fill this role effectively after the international break, especially as Camavinga and Dani Ceballos are expected to return from injury and help in midfield.

ā€œOf course, I prefer to play in midfield, but I always try to give my best for the team,ā€ TchouamĆ©ni said in a recent interview, where he also emphasized his readiness to play outside his usual position if necessary for the benefit of Real Madrid.

Camavinga and Valverde to support Lucas VƔzquez on the right

Ancelottiā€™s other significant decision involves the right-back position, which has been left vacant by Carvajalā€™s injury. The coach may turn to Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde to cover the role. Camavinga has previously filled in on the left, and Ancelotti believes he can have a similar impact on the right, despite the different positions.

Another option is Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde, who is known for his stamina and versatility. As Real Madrid’s new number 8, Valverdeā€™s athleticism, defensive qualities, and leadership make him a strong candidate to play on the right side of the defense, an option Ancelotti is seriously considering.
