Liverpool have stunning ‘agreement’ in place to sign Serie A star in cut price deal next summer
Liverpool are reported to have secured a stunning free transfer deal for next summer.
Arne Slot made only one major signing in his first transfer window as manager, bringing in Federico Chiesa from Juventus for £10 million.
The Reds had been eager to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad after his standout performance in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, but the midfielder opted to stay with his current club. However, Liverpool seem to be planning for next summer, with reports suggesting that a deal may already be in the works.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation at Liverpool is yet to be resolved, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season. The England international has been heavily linked with Real Madrid, especially after Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury.
Nonetheless, Liverpool reportedly have a replacement right-back lined up. According to *Todo Fichajes*, the club’s preferred option is Netherlands and Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.
Dumfries is also set to become a free agent at the end of the season, as he has yet to agree on a contract extension with Inter Milan. The Italian club reportedly fears that the 29-year-old has no plans to extend his stay and may have already reached an agreement with a third party, which they believe to be Liverpool.
While Liverpool will still push for Alexander-Arnold to stay, along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, Dumfries would be a smart addition on a free transfer. Capped 60 times for the Netherlands, Dumfries is a dynamic full-back who has been an integral part of Inter’s success since joining in 2021. He has won a Serie A title, two Coppa Italias, and helped the team reach the 2023 Champions League final.
