Spain : Luis de la Fuente tackles Barca on the management of Lamine Yamal !
Luis de la Fuente Sends Strong Message to Barcelona Regarding Lamine Yamal’s Management
Ahead of Spain’s third Nations League match against Denmark, coach Luis de la Fuente addressed concerns surrounding the management of young star Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old, widely regarded as one of Spain’s brightest talents, has been the center of debate regarding his heavy involvement with both FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
Yamal’s rapid rise has raised questions about the risk of fatigue or injury, given his age and the demands placed on him by club and country. When asked about possibly resting Yamal during the international break, de la Fuente made his stance clear: “You have Lamine for 70 matches a year; I have him once a month. I don’t think the responsibility for managing him lies with the national team, but rather with those with whom he spends the most time,” the coach said, pointing to Barcelona’s role in ensuring the young player’s well-being.
De la Fuente emphasized that while the national team sees its players only during periodic call-ups, clubs are responsible for the long-term management of their athletes. He stressed that it is crucial for clubs like Barcelona to prioritize the physical protection of young talents like Yamal, who could be at risk of overuse.
