Laporta plans to sign the deal of the century next summer, with the help of Nike
Joan Laporta is planning to make a significant impact in the next summer transfer window, aiming to make up for the lack of thrilling signings in the past two years. Barcelona had targeted Nico Williams and Joshua Kimmich, but these pursuits were unsuccessful, and eventually, the club secured Dani Olmo, who not only meets but exceeds expectations. However, Olmo does not fully satisfy the demands of the media and fans.
As reported by the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Nike is aiming to bring a global star to Hansi Flick’s project in 2025. One of the key options gaining momentum is the pursuit of a top-tier “9” striker to fill the gap left by Robert Lewandowski, whose contract expires in June and is unlikely to be renewed, meaning he could leave the club for free.
Several alternatives are being considered, but Erling Haaland stands out as the most exciting possibility. The newspaper also mentioned that Haaland needs no introduction, as he is currently regarded as the best footballer in the world, surpassing Kylian Mbappe. His stats are incredible, having scored 11 goals in just nine matches this season.
This is not the first time Haaland has been linked with Barcelona, as previous attempts to sign him were unsuccessful. Though it will be a challenging task, Laporta could benefit from the backing of Nike, Barcelona’s main sponsor, and the Norwegian star.
Furthermore, Pep Guardiola’s potential departure from Manchester City at the end of the season might encourage Haaland to seek a new challenge in La Liga, which he has always found appealing. With Real Madrid ruled out as a possible destination due to the pressure of competing with several high-profile stars, Flick’s project could seem more enticing to Haaland if he chooses to leave the Etihad Stadium.
Additionally, Barcelona has another reason to feel hopeful about signing Haaland, as Manchester City could face potential sanctions, possibly forcing them to sell the former Borussia Dortmund player.
