Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly set to compete for the signing of Andrija Maksimovic, a 17-year-old Serbian talent often referred to as the ‘next Lionel Messi’ due to his playing style and long hair. Maksimovic, who currently plays for Red Star Belgrade, has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City strengthened their attacking options during the summer transfer window, with Liverpool signing Federico Chiesa and City acquiring Savinho. However, the two Premier League giants are now monitoring Maksimovic closely as a potential future star. His contract with Red Star runs until 2027, and he is expected to command a transfer fee of around £12.5 million.

Maksimovic has made six appearances this season, providing one assist, and his performances for Serbia during the international break have further fueled the hype surrounding his potential. City could view Maksimovic as a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, whose contract expires in 2025 and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, might see the versatile youngster as a key addition to bolster both their midfield and attacking options.

If either club successfully signs Maksimovic, it would represent a significant investment in a promising player who could develop into a major asset for the future.
