Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has admitted that facing Lionel Messi always filled him with fear.

At 34, Szczesny briefly retired this summer, but an unexpected opportunity arose when Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a season-ending knee injury. Seizing the chance, Szczesny, who spent the past seven years at Juventus, came out of retirement and signed with the Catalan giants earlier this month.

The former Poland No. 1 started his professional career with Arsenal, where he spent nine years and won two FA Cups. He also had a two-year loan stint at Roma, where his excellent performances convinced Juventus to make him the long-term successor to the legendary Gianluigi Buffon.
