A Manchester United legend has urged Ruben Amorim to sign one player in particular, and the move would certainly shock the football world.

Following Erik ten Hag’s departure from United on Monday, Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim looks set to take over at Old Trafford.

Despite spending £180m in the summer on Matthijs De Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, and Manuel Ugarte, the Red Devils currently sit 14th in the Premier League.

It is thought that Amorim will want to put his own stamp on the side and could look to recruit yet more new players in the January and summer transfer windows.

Scoring goals has been a huge problem for United this season, with forwards Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund scoring a combined total of two league goals so far.

Overall, United are one of the lowest scorers in the league with just eight goals from nine Premier League games this season – only Crystal Palace and Southampton have scored fewer (six).

Someone who knows a thing or two about finding the back of the is Red Devils legend Dwight Yorke; he scored 123 Premier League goals during his time at Man United, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland.

Yorke has made a bold claim when discussing who he thinks his former club should sign to bolster their attack, explaining that he would “try and nick Darwin Nunez off Liverpool”.

Of course, as Michael Owen once found out, swapping the red side of Merseyside for the red side of Manchester may not go down too well at his current club.

But there is a case to be made from Nunez’s perspective given the fact he has only started in 22% of his six league appearances this term, as Arne Slot has opted for Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah ahead of the Uruguayan for the most part.

“If I could sign anyone to come in at number nine for Man Utd, then I would try and nick Darwin Nunez off Liverpool,” Yorke told Safest Casino Sites.

“Again, I know people may scoff at that suggestion, he’s a little bit out of form, and people give him stick, but I’m convinced that there is a monster of a player in there that is waiting to come out.”

“He’s got a presence; he’s got something nasty about him, and I think he’s a real handful. Man Utd need a player who can act as that focal point and give them that presence on the pitch,” he added.

“They need someone with Darwin Nunez’s physical attributes.”

Nunez signed for Liverpool from Portuguese side Benfica – also Amorim’s former club as a player – for a club-record fee of £85m in June 2022.

Despite showing clear signs of promise, his tally of 35 goals in 107 appearances has not warranted his hefty price tag.

The 25-year-old’s contract at Liverpool is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 season.
