🏟️💥The best move for January is to facilitate his departure. He’s made his position untenable, and it’s time for a fresh start,” – Ruben Amorim reportedly open to letting a Manchester United star go in the upcoming transfer window. The decision could alleviate squad tensions and free up crucial resources for rebuilding under the new regime.Joshua Zirkzee’s Manchester United future appears uncertain, just six months after his £36 million move to Old Trafford.

Joshua Zirkzee’s Manchester United future appears uncertain, just six months after his £36 million move to Old Trafford. The Dutch forward, signed in July following an impressive season with Bologna, has struggled to find his footing at United. Despite netting 12 goals in 37 appearances last season and playing a crucial role in Bologna’s qualification for the Champions League under Thiago Motta, Zirkzee has yet to replicate that form in England.
His arrival at United was prompted by Erik ten Hag, who envisioned Zirkzee competing with Rasmus Højlund and Marcus Rashford for a spot in the attack. However, with ten Hag’s departure and Ruben Amorim’s adoption of a 3-4-3 system, Zirkzee has found himself falling out of favor.
Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Juventus could offer an escape route for the striker, potentially reuniting him with Thiago Motta, now managing the Turin club. A loan deal in January is seen as a possible solution, with Motta reportedly eager to rekindle their successful partnership.
Zirkzee’s current challenges were highlighted in recent games under Amorim. In United’s 2-1 Premier League win over Ipswich Town, Rashford was deployed centrally, flanked by Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho. Rashford scored early, while Zirkzee was introduced as a substitute in the 68th minute but failed to make a significant impact.
In the midweek Europa League fixture against Bodo/Glimt, Amorim opted to start Højlund alongside Mason Mount and Garnacho. Højlund responded with two goals, including the winner, while Zirkzee remained on the bench.
Zirkzee’s limited opportunities have seen him complete only one full match this season, scoring just once in 18 appearances. Amorim has openly called for more from the forward, particularly in his positioning and decision-making during attacking plays.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim said:
“I think that decision-making is a concern—you shouldn’t need to coach that at this level. Players have to recognize when to hold possession and when to push forward. Josh needs to understand that during our attacks, he has to be in the box for the crosses.”
With competition fierce and his role uncertain, the January transfer window could mark a turning point in Zirkzee’s short-lived Manchester United career.
