Arne Slot has provided an update on when Liverpool fans can expect Alisson Becker to return to action, with the Brazilian goalkeeper sidelined for the past two months due to a hamstring injury sustained during the win over Crystal Palace in October.
In Alisson’s absence, Caoimhin Kelleher has stepped up admirably, earning praise for his performances. However, Slot reiterated his stance that Alisson, once fully fit, will reclaim his spot as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Slot said (via Liverpool Echo):
“I think I was clear about our position with the goalkeepers a few weeks ago. We are waiting for the moment Alisson is completely fit because Caoimh is doing too well to put Alisson in if he is only 50%. He’s getting closer. It might take a few more days, but he will be back in goal before the end of December.”
The Reds boss appears to be managing the situation wisely, ensuring there’s no rush to reintegrate Alisson before he’s ready. With Kelleher performing exceptionally well, Slot can afford to give the Brazilian the time he needs to fully recover.
Alisson’s return is likely to happen this month, possibly in the Champions League match against Girona or the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Southampton. Regardless of the timing, Slot’s ability to rely on two high-caliber goalkeepers is a rare luxury, sparking debates among fans over who should start when Alisson is available again.
