Wrexham are reportedly targeting a stunning deal for a Manchester United player in the January transfer window as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney look to boost the club’s promotion bid.
With strong investment from their Hollywood owners, Wrexham have achieved back-to-back promotions under manager Phil Parkinson and are in a fantastic position to make it a hat-trick.
Wrexham are currently second in League One, just two points behind league leaders Wycombe Wanderers after 11 wins, four draws and three losses from 18 games.
The Red Dragons were not afraid to splash out on new additions in the summer market, notably the likes of Ollie Rathbone and Mo Faal.
But fresh reports claim that the Welsh outfit are looking to strengthen again when the January window opens. Despite their success, Wrexham are still looking for a new striker to lead the line, with Jack Marriott, currently injured, their top scorer with five goals in 10 games.
According to transfer expert Graeme Bailey, who spoke with United in Focus, the club see Red Devils youngster Ethan Wheatley as a solution to combat some issues in attack.
However, promotion rivals Stockport County are also in for Wheatley, as are Championship clubs.
“Ethan Wheatley is one who a lot of Championship clubs like,” Bailey said.
“I had heard Wrexham and Stockport for him.”
18-year-old Wheatley came through the ranks at United and had his Premier League debut in April against Sheffield United after signing his professional deal.
The England Under 19 international has played just once in the first-team this season in an Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City, instead mainly featuring in the Premier League 2 and scoring five times in seven appearances.

He looks set for a much-needed loan in a bid to get gametime in the professional game but isn’t the only United prospect set to depart. According to Bailey, Harry Amass, Dan Gore and Ethan Ennis are poised for temporary transfers in January.
Wrexham are back in action on Saturday when they travel to play Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium, following on from a last-gasp win over Barnsley on Tuesday at the Stok Racecourse.
