Arsenal have advantage over Man United for £5 MILLION winger who loves Mikel Arteta
Arsenal Eye January Move for Leroy Sane Amid Offensive Struggles
Arsenal may be poised for another significant spending spree in January, as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad following recent setbacks. The Gunners suffered a disappointing Premier League defeat to Newcastle on Saturday, followed by a Champions League loss to Inter Milan midweek. With a crucial clash against Chelsea looming and their last league victory dating back to October 5, Arsenal now sits seven points behind leaders Liverpool.
Amid concerns about their lack of offensive firepower, speculation is mounting that Arsenal could target Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane to strengthen their attack.
Sane’s Potential Return to England
Since leaving Manchester City in 2020, Sane has been instrumental in Bayern Munich’s success, helping the club secure three Bundesliga titles, the European Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. However, under new manager Vincent Kompany, the German international has reportedly fallen out of favor following the arrival of Michael Olise.
Sky Germany reports that the 28-year-old winger is open to a return to the Premier League, with Arsenal and Manchester United emerging as frontrunners for his signature. Sane’s prior stint in England saw him win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and two League Cups with Manchester City.
Sane’s previous collaboration with Arteta during the latter’s time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach could play a pivotal role in Arsenal’s pursuit. The winger has spoken highly of Arteta’s influence, noting how their one-on-one sessions at City significantly improved his game.
Sane’s Profile and Value
During his time at City, Sane scored 35 goals in 139 appearances, and he has since netted 51 goals in 185 matches for Bayern. Despite his contract expiring next summer, Bayern reportedly values Sane at £50 million. However, his rumored £320,000-per-week wages could present a financial hurdle for Arsenal. To facilitate the move, the Gunners may need to offload one of their underperforming forwards.
Strategic Moves for January
Arteta is expected to clarify his plans for the upcoming transfer window, especially following the departure of sporting director Edu. Known for securing key signings like Declan Rice and William Saliba, Edu recently agreed to join Evangelos Marinakis’s consortium of teams.
Arsenal faces stiff competition for Sane, particularly from Manchester United, and may need to act decisively in January to avoid losing out. Sane’s addition could provide the attacking edge Arsenal needs to reignite their title challenge and close the gap on league leaders Liverpool.
