In an exclusive interview with Catalan newspaper “Sport”, Barcelona and Brazil legend Ronaldinho discussed the current situation at the Catalan club and its performance this season.

Speaking about the management style of president Joan Laporta, Ronaldinho did not hesitate to offer harsh criticism, warning that the continuation of the current situation could lead to the complete collapse of Barcelona’s season.

Ronaldinho began his remarks by commenting on Laporta’s management, stressing that the team suffers from a lack of stability at all levels. He said: “Barcelona has been suffering from a state of chaos in recent years, and I see that President Laporta does not have a clear vision to return the team to the top. The current situation cannot continue. If the club continues in this direction, the season will witness a complete collapse, and there will be no hope of competing for titles.”

He added: “Laporta is focusing on his personal interests more than the interests of the club. Yes, the team faces major challenges, but the management has not been able to find real solutions. Their decisions harm the club, not the other way around.”

Despite praising some of the talented players on the team, Ronaldinho did not hesitate to criticize several current players, calling on German coach Hansi Flick to make radical changes to the squad if Barcelona wants to compete for titles.

He explained: “There is a group of players at Barcelona who must leave if the team wants to return to competing seriously. The first is Ferran Torres, the Spanish winger, who does not have the level required to be a Barcelona player. Also, Robert Lewandowski, despite what he has offered in the past, has become an older player and has lost his sense of scoring, causing the team to lose many points in the league due to his recklessness in front of goal.”

He continued: “There is also the French defender Jules Kounde, who has become a clear weakness in the right-back position. Barcelona will not be able to compete for titles if this situation continues. Then, there is Frenkie de Jong, who is no longer contributing as expected, despite his high salary. It is clear that he is one of the least influential players in the team.”

“Finally, Ansu Fati, who has been completely out of service due to repeated injuries. A team like Barcelona cannot rely on a player who has been almost absent throughout the season.”

Ronaldinho didn’t limit his criticism to the players, but also sent a message to Laporta and coach Hansi Flick. He said: “I think Flick should be more daring in making his decisions. If he wants to return Barcelona to its rightful place among the top European clubs, he must get rid of these players. The decision must be quick and decisive because time is running out for them.”

He concluded by saying: “If you want Barcelona to return to competing for titles this season, bold decisions must be made. The club has the potential for success, but it is necessary to cleanse the team and rebuild its structure properly.”

These statements come at a sensitive time for Barcelona, which is suffering from issues at both the technical and administrative levels, amid popular demands for urgent changes.
