LIVERPOOL
🔥🏟️Why Liverpool vs Manchester United Could be Postponed at Short Notice
“Concerns are growing” about the possible “postponement of Sunday’s Liverpool vs Manchester United match at Anfield.” The Met Office has issued an “amber weather warning for Merseyside,” citing the risk of “snow and freezing rain [likely causing disruption to transport and other services].”
Certain areas in the UK are predicted to experience “up to 40 centimetres of snow,” placing the “high-profile Premier League match” between two of the “most successful clubs in England” under threat.
This follows the “postponement of the Merseyside Derby last month,” when Liverpool’s short trip to Everton was canceled due to “safety concerns caused by Storm Darragh’s winds, which reached nearly 100mph.”
The expected “snow and then rain” could make it difficult for “supporters attending the game at Anfield,” with “all travellers recommended to bring warm clothing, food, water, blankets, and ice scrapers” for their journey.
For those using public transport, “routes could be disrupted or closed,” with temperatures hovering around “3C,” though the “‘feels like’ temperature” may drop below zero. Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News has reported that “Manchester City’s home fixture against West Ham” may also face disruptions from the conditions “30 miles east.”
Amid the “severe weather conditions,” unverified reports suggest a “meeting scheduled for 9am on Sunday morning” to evaluate risks ahead of the “planned 4:30pm kick-off.” Although these remain “whispers,” it’s not uncommon for clubs to discuss “risks involved in proceeding with matches that could endanger fans.”
Currently, Liverpool leads the Premier League by “six points ahead of Arsenal with a game in hand,” but “supporters are concerned” about the team maintaining their position, especially since the “postponed Merseyside Derby” is still awaiting rescheduling.
As of now, the derby is “pencilled in for February 11,” but if “the clash against Manchester United is also called off this weekend,” fixture congestion could pose a major challenge as the “season reaches its b
usiness end.”
