Liverpool announced that they have issued a statement after hosting another safety meeting at Anfield to evaluate weather and travel conditions ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester United.

Heavy snowfall overnight in Merseyside placed the highly anticipated home game, set for a 4:30 pm kick-off, at risk of postponement.

A Safety Advisory Group convened at 9 am on Sunday to assess the situation, delaying their decision until 11:45 am.

At 9:31 am, Liverpool confirmed that the game was still scheduled to proceed as planned. The statement included: “Every effort is being made to get the game on. A further safety meeting will take place again at midday to assess the latest conditions.”

Manchester United also updated fans, stating: “Our match against Liverpool is set to still go ahead at this stage, despite snow and weather warnings in the North West today. Take care if you are travelling to the game — we will update you with the latest developments.”

Both clubs later confirmed that, following two safety meetings, the match would proceed as scheduled.

Liverpool’s updated statement read: “Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions.”

They added: “We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there.”

According to Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst, both Liverpool and Manchester airports have reopened, and roads are reasonably safe despite the snowfall.

Manchester United released their confirmation, stating: “Following a second safety meeting, it has been decided that today’s match between Manchester United and Liverpool will go ahead.
