The “Premier League” has clarified the reasoning behind “VAR” upholding “Anthony Taylor’s” decision to award “Brighton” a penalty against “Arsenal” following an incident involving “William Saliba” and “Joao Pedro.”
The event transpired as “Saliba,” while attempting to challenge for an aerial ball in “Brighton’s” penalty area, mistimed his jump and made contact with “Pedro’s” head, causing “Pedro” to fall. Referee “Taylor” awarded a penalty amid the crowded box. “VAR” officials “Paul Tierney” and “Dan Cook” at “Stockley Park” promptly reviewed and validated the decision.
In an official statement, the “Premier League Match Centre” explained: “The referee’s decision to award a penalty for a foul by Saliba on João Pedro was reviewed and confirmed by VAR, which deemed the contact sufficient to warrant a penalty.”
Prior to the match, “Arsenal” manager “Mikel Arteta” addressed the unavailability of several key players as the team aimed to maintain an unbeaten streak of 13 matches against “Brighton.” “Kai Havertz,” “Gabriel Martinelli,” and “Martin Ødegaard” were all ruled out.
