🚨🔥Manchester United Ex-Midfielder Scott McTominay decided to return to his former club after just 6 months in Napoli after his conversation with Rúben Amorim
Scott McTominay has garnered a new nickname from Napoli fans after scoring in a dominant match against Fiorentina, a team that now features his former Manchester United teammate, David de Gea.
The 28-year-old midfielder made the switch from Manchester United to Napoli during the summer of 2024, with BBC Sport reporting the transfer fee as £25.7 million. Having spent his entire career with United before the move, McTominay has adapted impressively to life in Serie A. In 18 appearances for Antonio Conte’s Napoli, he has recorded five goals and three assists, playing a vital role in helping the defending champions stay at the top of the league table.
In a 3-0 triumph at the Artemio Franchi Stadium, McTominay, alongside David Neres and Romelu Lukaku, contributed to Napoli’s commanding win. On the opposing side, de Gea had a tough outing with Fiorentina, unable to stop McTominay from showcasing his impact. Napoli’s official X account later celebrated McTominay’s performance by posting a picture of him celebrating his goal, accompanied by the caption: “Es un elisir. Scott McTominay, mi Blue Label.” The phrase, which translates to “Scotch McTominay, my Blue Label,” cleverly ties McTominay’s Scottish roots to the famed Blue Label whiskey.
The victory, however, was marked by sadness. After the match, Antonio Conte skipped the post-game press conference due to the passing of a 13-year-old fan named Daniele. The young supporter, who had formed a bond with Conte and the Napoli team, had been battling illness and had recently received heartfelt support from the players. Daniele’s courage and positivity had inspired figures like Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who had dedicated goals to him.
Napoli’s assistant coach Cristian Stellini addressed the media on behalf of the team, explaining Conte’s absence and expressing condolences. Stellini shared that while the victory was gratifying, the team was deeply affected by the loss of someone who had been a source of strength and energy for them. He extended thoughts to Daniele’s family and all children facing similar hardships, emphasizing the profound impact the young fan had on the squad.
