Enzo Maresca Addresses Questions on if He will be Recalling Lesley Ugochukwu or Andrey Santos from their loan spell

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has addressed speculation about recalling midfielders Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu from their loan spells. With both Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez potentially unavailable for Chelsea’s upcoming match against Wolves due to injuries, the team’s midfield depth is under scrutiny.

Chelsea’s limited midfield options have led to questions about whether the club will consider bringing back Santos, currently excelling on loan at Strasbourg, or Ugochukwu, who is gaining experience at Southampton.

When asked about this possibility, Maresca appeared to downplay the need for immediate action, stating:

“No, because we don’t know if it’s a problem for them (Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez), just that we don’t know if they will play the next game.”

Maresca’s comments suggest that Chelsea is not actively planning to recall either player, even though the availability of both Fernandez and Lavia remains uncertain.

Many fans argue that recalling one of these midfielders should be considered, particularly given Lavia’s recent struggles with recurring injuries. While Lavia is undoubtedly talented, his fitness issues have made it challenging for Chelsea to depend on him.

Lesley Ugochukwu has shown flashes of promise during his loan spell at Southampton but has struggled with consistency. In contrast, Andrey Santos has been in impressive form at Strasbourg, reinforcing the belief that he could have a significant future at Chelsea.

Recalling one of these players could provide Chelsea with additional midfield depth and alleviate the burden on the remaining squad members. Such a move might also better prepare the team for the demands of the season.

For now, Maresca seems confident that a recall is unnecessary, but the situation could evolve depending on the severity of Fernandez and Lavia’s injuries. Fans will be keenly observing the club’s next steps, eager to see how Chelsea addresses its midfield challenges.
