Wow, Kevin De Bruyne didn’t hold back after Man City’s 6-0 thrashing of Ipswich Town! He just made a huge statement about Liverpool and their hopes of winning the league—and it’s got everyone talking.
Kevin De Bruyne is the latest Manchester City player to emphasize that Pep Guardiola’s team is not currently fixated on Liverpool or the Premier League title race. However, the Belgian midfielder hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a remarkable comeback by the defending champions.
City currently sit in fourth place, trailing Liverpool by 12 points, with the Reds also holding a game in hand. After a commanding 6-0 victory over Ipswich Town, City are now unbeaten in their last five league games, signaling a critical recovery following a poor spell between late October and Boxing Day, during which they secured only one win and suffered nine losses across 13 matches in all competitions.
This season, City have already suffered six Premier League defeats and recorded five draws, dropping a total of 28 points. By contrast, during the entire 2019/20 campaign, when they finished second to Liverpool, they dropped just 33 points overall.
With a maximum of 86 points still theoretically within reach, City would need to deliver nearly flawless performances for the remainder of the season while relying on a significant decline from Liverpool to have any hope of reclaiming the title.
Reflecting on the situation after the win over Ipswich, De Bruyne acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying: “I don’t think we need to look at Liverpool for the moment. We just need to do a better job, get more wins, and focus on our big game in Paris. We know we’ve dropped too many points, and the goal is to win as many games as possible.”
City’s margin for error is now razor-thin, and their efforts to stay in the title race remain an uphill challenge.
