Manchester United, struggling with inconsistent attacking displays this season, have unexpectedly surfaced as potential suitors for a Liverpool forward. Despite a turbulent start to their campaign, the appointment of manager Ruben Amorim has injected a renewed sense of optimism into the club. However, United remain in the lower half of the Premier League standings, increasing pressure to strengthen their squad in upcoming transfer windows.
One name linked to the Red Devils is 25-year-old Darwin Nunez, who has faced difficulties finding form at Liverpool. The Uruguayan striker, with only seven league starts under manager Arne Slot, seems to have fallen out of favor at Anfield. Nunez’s struggles are evident in his output this season, having scored just two goals across 15 Premier League appearances.
Interestingly, Manchester United had been connected to Nunez prior to his move to Liverpool, and new reports suggest they may be revisiting their interest. The club reportedly sees Nunez’s speed and physicality as attributes that could align well with Amorim’s tactical philosophy at Old Trafford.
However, a deal between two fierce rivals seems improbable. Liverpool would likely be hesitant to strengthen a direct competitor, and United would be taking a risk on a player whose performances this season have been inconsistent. The rarity of direct transfers between the two clubs further complicates matters; the last such deal was in 1964 when Phil Chisnall moved between the sides.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott has attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund and Brighton, pointing to potential midfield changes at Anfield. As both clubs assess their options, the January transfer window could prove pivotal in shaping their respective seasons.
