🚨Mikel Arteta has revealed that he’s consulting his players on which striker Arsenal should target in the January transfer window, acknowledging that his team needs “help” in their title race against Liverpool. Following Gabriel Jesus’ serious knee injury, which could sideline him for up to a year, Arteta is looking to strengthen his attacking options before the window closes in 10 days.

With Jesus out, Kai Havertz is currently Arsenal’s only recognized striker, and Bukayo Saka is expected to be out until at least March due to a hamstring injury.

 

Declan Rice recently suggested that Arsenal might make a move in the transfer market, and when asked if the players have expressed the need for more reinforcements, Arteta explained: “Not exactly, but we all know the situation. We’ve been stretched for a while now, and we’re trying to do what’s best for the club and the team.”

 

Ahead of Arsenal’s match against Wolves, Arteta also discussed how he involves his current squad in transfer decisions, especially when players know potential targets.

 

 

He explained that while data is helpful, personal insights on a player’s mentality, like how they handle goal droughts or perform under pressure, are even more valuable.

 

Arteta had previously focused on improving his current squad rather than adding new players, but Jesus’ injury has forced him to reconsider. He added that with the losses of Saka and Jesus, Arsenal now lack goals and depth in the forward line, and although the team has managed, they need help to maintain their title challenge.

 

In a positive update, Arteta mentioned that both William Saliba and Myles Lewis-Skelly have an outside chance of being available for the Wolves match, after missing the midweek Champions League win against Dinamo Zagreb.

 

Arsenal currently trail Liverpool by six points, having played one more game, but Arteta remains confident, warning Liverpool that Arsenal will be ready to capitalize on any slip-ups.

 

“The margins are really small in the title race,” said Arteta. “Things can change quickly, and the gap could look very different. It’s still in our hands, and we’ve got a long way to go.”
