Liverpool is reportedly eyeing a “magical” striker with 31 international goals as a potential replacement for Darwin Nunez.
The club is exploring options to strengthen their attack, and one name on their radar is a forward with a remarkable international record, scoring 31 goals for his national team. Recent reports suggest Liverpool is considering this highly skilled striker to take over from Nunez at the end of the season.
While Liverpool’s January transfer window is expected to be relatively quiet, speculation around new signings continues. Manager Arne Slot appears content with the current squad, but identifying a long-term successor for Mohamed Salah remains a challenge due to the winger’s exceptional contributions.
In addition to bolstering their midfield with potential targets like Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, Liverpool is also linked to Antoine Semenyo of Bournemouth and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, although Newcastle United reportedly shares an interest in these players.
Federico Chiesa, who joined Liverpool last summer, has also been linked with a potential departure, though an exit this month would be unexpected and could leave a gap in the squad.
One of Liverpool’s main focuses, however, is on Lille’s Jonathan David. Viewed as both a significant upgrade to their current lineup and a “long-term investment,” the Canadian striker has caught Slot’s attention with his versatility and prolific scoring record.
David, currently considered one of Europe’s top attacking talents, has showcased his ability with impressive performances for both Lille and the Canadian national team. The 24-year-old has scored 31 goals in 59 appearances for Canada and has netted 11 goals in 12 Ligue 1 matches this season alone. His standout form has been described as “magical” by Alexandre Gangue-Ruzic.
Meanwhile, Nunez, now in his third season at Liverpool, has struggled with consistency, particularly in his finishing and overall contributions, leading to doubts about his long-term role in the squad. AC Milan is reportedly interested in the Uruguayan forward, potentially paving the way for a summer transfer.
Signing Jonathan David could provide Liverpool with an impactful addition to their squad, offering both immediate and future benefits. If the striker becomes available on a low-cost or free transfer this summer, it could be a win-win situation for the player and the club.
